Welcome to our online home! We use the open source Moodle Learning Management System to house our knowMoodle courses, workshops and activities. This short self-paced tutorial introduces you to the key tools that we use here in knowplace Family of Sites. We hope that this little bit of practice takes away some of the fear and trepidation that you have working online. Try our assignments and let us know what you think of them. When you post messages we will respond promptly. You'll soon learn that we are often here... online... . We look forward to working with you and getting to know you!

Upload Something

Our knowMATES ALWAYS seem to want to upload a powerpoint presentation an excel file or a word document! We try to convince you that these are EXTERNAL files to the language of the Internet. We explain that a document that is written in the language of the web eg: HTML is so much simpler for you, and the people you work with to access and read the information. These external files will cause nothing but headaches to you and your clients/students/members... Learn to use HTML instead! However.... we knowMATES always want to fit a square peg into a round hole -- so, learn to do it properly here! Practice here safely! clown

Upload an Image

It is fun to have small images in posts. They give a bit of life to the text- rich posts. You can click on the book link below to see images of how to insert an image into a new discussion post, or you can follow the steps as outlined:

1.  You use the attachment option at the bottom of the post:

  • hit the browse option at the bottom of the post
  • this takes you to your hard drive where you find the proper directory where you store your files
  • double click or open the image you want to attach
  • post to forum and ...
  • voila it is done
note in some browsers it appears in the post as an image (eg: IE) and in other browsers (eg: firefox) it is a link at the top right hand side of the post

2.  You insert an image from the world wide web

  • find your image on the web
  • right click the image to get the correct address (choose properties, usually near the bottom of the menu)
  • copy that world wide web address
  • click on the mountain icon (this is the image upload button)
  • paste the www address in the top text box
  • add a descriptor (the second text box area)
  • click save at the bottom of the image dialogue box and it is done!

Try out the Glossary!

This sandbox glossary is for you to try out the different features in the glossary (and we have introduced most of them). In our courses and activites we encourage you to assist each other with terms and definitions. So practice here... You can assist us by adding one tip about how to use moodle or not worry about this at all. You don't have to worry about finding anything particularly useful -- although a good martini recipe is just fine! evil
